From XDog to commercial quadrupeds

Wang Xingxing developed XDog during his postgraduate studies. Unitree’s account describes work on motor selection, electronics, control simulation and leg design before he left DJI to start the company in 2016. Laikago followed in 2017, Aliengo in 2019, A1 in 2020 and Go1 in 2021. That sequence explains why leg actuators and locomotion software remain central to its business. [1]

Robot families

Unitree’s June 2026 registration prospectus dates the first H1 humanoid to August 2023. Its present catalog includes the H1/H1-2, G1, R1 and H2 families alongside quadrupeds such as Go2 and B2. Those names cover different sizes, joint arrangements and intended buyers. A specification from one model cannot describe the entire catalog. [2] [3]

The robot profiles linked below keep the original H1, base G1 and standard R1 separate. Before comparing a price or payload, match the model name to the edition, hand hardware and software access in the quotation. This matters especially when a research setup shown in a paper uses optional hardware.

Components and software

Unitree says it develops motors, gear reducers, controllers and lidar internally. Its public engineering materials also include SDK2 and a Python interface built around Cyclone DDS. These repositories give developers a concrete place to examine communication and control examples. [3] [4]

One G1 arm example reads joint positions and sends position, velocity, feedback gains and feedforward torque commands. It shows the level at which researchers can construct motion software on compatible hardware. It does not establish that every retail edition offers the same interfaces or that a robot can complete household tasks on its own. [5]

Funding and reported sales

The company reports a B2 round of nearly RMB 1 billion completed before the 2024 Lunar New Year, naming investors including Meituan, Jinshi Investment and Source Code Capital. Its June 2026 IPO registration prospectus reports 2025 revenue of RMB 1.699 billion. These figures describe different things. The first is capital raised, while the second is annual sales revenue. [6] [2]

The Shanghai Stock Exchange announced on 18 August 2026 that Unitree's A shares would begin trading on its STAR Market on 19 August under code 688836. [7]

In a statement dated 22 January 2026, Unitree said it delivered more than 5,500 humanoids to end customers during 2025 and produced more than 6,500. The statement excludes dual-arm wheeled robots. These are the manufacturer’s figures; deliveries, factory output and orders should retain their separate labels. [8]

What the sales figures do not show

The prospectus identifies research, application development, education, performances and services among humanoid uses. That mix matters when assessing adoption. A robot delivered to a laboratory contributes to shipments, but its sale does not establish unattended production work at a factory. A customer deployment claim needs a named site, a defined task and evidence of sustained operation. [2]
